Vintage Shabby Chic Art Quilt

This quilt was made from an old patchwork hippy dress I had stored away. I had found it in a charity shop many years ago, it was great for this latest project. Well, the dress became the inspiration for the quilt! The vintage materials went well with the old Indian embroidery pieces. The border is also made from an old hippy shoulder bag. This is the second quilt I made over the winter months, most of it sewn by hand. My sewing machines are all kept in my small sewing-room/box-room, and really its just far too cold at the moment to sit through there, so here I am hand-sewing because its warmer through here! Again this design was inspired by the designs in the new book I bought, ‘Stitched Textiles: Birds’, by Rachel Sumner. Art Quilt – Bird Song

Over the winter months, I worked away at various crafts, I knitted blanket squares, finally making two small woolly blankets for my cats, which they seemed to appreciate, but who can tell with cats! Then I started on a rag-quilt, my first, which I decided to do totally by hand, enjoyable to start with, before becoming arduous, and how messy!
