Patchwork Tote Bags

Patchwork Tote Bags

A series of Patchwork Tote Bags I've made over the years. The first one was the Charles Bridge image, way back in 2014. Each bag was made with scraps of material, with each side of the bag being different...giving choice to what side I preferred. My favourite is the one featured with the dog chasing the dragon-fly. This was initially picked up in a charity shop, a vintage bag looking the worse for wear, exactly the type of 'find' I enjoy! I can see the possibilities and potential of these 'finds', and enjoy…continue reading →
Art Quilt – Golden Elephant

Art Quilt – Golden Elephant

Really enjoyed making this quilt. I loved the image of the golden elephant and it went well with some old cushion covers I had stashed away in my fabric bags. I cut up an old scarf and appliqued some of the glimmering attachments. The embroidery in the panels is superb and I lay no claim to them whatsoever, this work is done in India by very skilled seamsters, the skills being passed down from generation to generation. Art Quilt – Peacock

Much hand-sewing after two sewing-machine needles broke after a collision with beaded sequins...continue reading →

Patchwork Tote Bag

First Tote Bag My first tote bag is made from fabric scraps & patchwork, very simple pattern. I decided I wanted colour and  for the bag to be lined. Was it difficult, yes! A natural sewer would have made it within a day or much less, but for myself it was a labour of three weeks! Hours of concentration, and I still didn't understand the instructions for turning the bag inside out and feeding the straps through, so ended up sewing the handles inside the completed bag. Found a great 'how to' video…continue reading →

Art Quilts

Art Quilts I took a fancy to making a small 'art quilt', and spent a week raking through a huge bag of scrap materials I keep. I hate sewing and therefore admire all those folk who love to sew and the skills they have to make clothes, quilts, etc. This one took me a week and is only my second quilt, the first one I made was way back pre-2005, so its took me a while to get around to making another! The Tree Frog (below) is a painting I did, but the…continue reading →
