View of the Gyles

This acrylic painting shows a side of the Gyles in Pittenweem that I hadn’t seen before, so it was a lovely challenge—and something a little different. Inspired by an old photograph, I first colourised the image and then used it as the basis for my painting. I wanted to capture the building’s original stonework, before it was painted white. Dating from 1626, the Gyles has the rugged, sturdy appearance of a little castle—built to last and weathered by centuries of storms.
